Downgrade graphics in games, or why Cyberpunk 2077 does not live up to expectations

Downgrade – is the use of old hardware or software, in this case, a decrease in the quality of graphics in the release version of the game.

Downgrade graphics in the gaming industry today is a common thing.. This is when, at the next E3 exhibition, all players look in amazement at the level of graphic development, and at the time of the release of the project they are disappointed, because the level is not even close. Seemingly, why developers show a false picture at the presentation?

Today we’ll talk about it. Personally, I first met downgrade back in the distant 2008 year, when I saw the trailer for The Incredible Hulk. The graphics seemed to be top notch at the time..

But what did the players get from the developers in this?

Downgrade graphics in games, or why Cyberpunk 2077 will not justify

Downgrade graphics for at least 50%. So how did it happen?

Developers don’t care?

Unfortunately, at E3 exhibitions they show only the so-called “vertical cut” games, ie. roughly speaking that level, to which developers only aspire. However, most often it is not possible to implement it for one simple reason: there will not be enough power.

It’s not a secret to anybody, that game consoles are much weaker than not even the most powerful PC, hence the inability to make a beautiful picture on PC, so as not to infringe on the gameplay on consoles, because. this would cause a lot of resentment of the consolers. However, it does not mean, that it’s only in some consoles. After all, the launch “vertical cut” takes place on extremely powerful gaming machines. that regular players can’t afford.

Cyberpunk 2077

Let’s remember the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from the developers of CD Project RED (who developed and Cyberpunk 2077). That, what players saw in the release version, and did not closely match what was shown in the trailer. However, there were still craftsmen, who independently finalized the games to the same level “nextgen”. This tells us about, that there was a clear downgrade. However, more on this later.

Based on all of the above, don’t expect too much from cyberpunk graphics. High probability, that the developers were guided by the same development principles, as when creating a witcher. In addition, there is information from the players, who played the pre-release version of the game and reported, that the downgrade did not pass her by.
