Clippy – Microsoft office assistant will return as an emoji in Microsoft 365.

Remember Clippy? This wonderful character in the form of an animated live paperclip. He was a simplified virtual assistant, which offered tips and tricks to Microsoft Office users with 1997 until the mid 2000s.

The original Clippy was “retired” in 2001 year with the launch of Office XP, disappeared from the screen, because it was disabled by default, and completely removed after a few years.

Now Microsoft has announced, that bring it back into their new products, but only as emoji. Clippy will appear as an emoji at Microsoft 365, including cloud services and a modern online version of Microsoft Office. Given that, that a Twitter post gets 20k likes. And within a few hours the post got 100k likes.

Clippy will replace all existing paperclip emoticons, but only in products from Microsoft. Users of Android smartphones or Apple devices will still see the standard paperclip emoji..
